Modern Beaded Kitchen with Dark Timber Finishes - Finchley

This modern beaded kitchen was designed for a private residence as part of a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living space. The brief was to create a kitchen with strong architectural presence, combining classic door detailing with contemporary materials, proportions and layout.

The result is a refined, understated design that balances warmth and texture with clean lines and modern functionality.

The Kitchen Design

The layout is anchored by a substantial central island, finished in dark stained timber and topped with a striking stone work surface. The island provides generous preparation space, integrated cooking and informal seating, while its solid proportions give the kitchen a strong visual centre within the open-plan room.

Perimeter cabinetry follows a modern beaded door profile, offering subtle detailing without overt ornamentation. Tall housing units integrate appliances seamlessly, creating uninterrupted vertical lines that reinforce the architectural feel of the space.

A long run of base units is paired with a full-height stone splashback and a floating shelf, replacing traditional wall cabinetry to keep the elevation light and contemporary.

Open-Plan Living & Dining

The kitchen sits comfortably within a wider open-plan layout, flowing naturally into the dining and seating areas beyond. Large-format glazing and rooflights flood the space with natural light, softening the darker cabinetry and enhancing the texture of the materials.

Herringbone timber flooring runs throughout, visually unifying the kitchen with the surrounding living areas and reinforcing the sense of craftsmanship and quality.

The result is a space that works effortlessly for both everyday use and entertaining, without the kitchen dominating the room.

Design Summary

This project demonstrates how a beaded kitchen can be reinterpreted for modern open-plan living. By combining traditional door profiling with dark timber finishes, architectural layouts and minimal detailing, the design achieves a calm, sophisticated aesthetic with lasting appeal.
